Delhi Public School, Rohini, celebrated ‘No Bag Day’ on Thursday, 14 August 2025, to mark
India’s 79th Independence Day. Held under the stirring theme, “Freedom is never dear at any
price; it is the very breath of life,” the initiative blended patriotic fervour with joyful learning
beyond the confines of books and bags.
The day commenced with a Special Assembly for the entire school. The programme featured
patriotic songs, a thought-provoking talk show, a skit and inspiring reflections interwoven with
a graceful dance performance that together captured the spirit of freedom. Addressing the
gathering, the Principal, Mrs. Kanika Sachdeva Govi, urged students to value the privileges that
independence has given them and to shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding it. She
reminded them that freedom is both a gift and a duty, one that must never be taken for
granted.
For the Infant Sunshine Wing, the day was filled with hands-on exploration. Health and wellness
took centre stage through a Dental Check-up and a refreshing Yoga session. Students shared a
cheerful Healthy Food Party, promoting mindful eating, while Water Awareness Activities
highlighted the importance of conservation. Creativity flourished through Paper Craft, Clay
Moulding and Matka Decoration. Science came alive with Magnet Magic and engaging
experiments using ink, light and mirrors. The patriotic spirit shone through Role Plays, the
‘Guess the National Symbol’ game and the heartfelt Thumbprint Pledge – My Promise to India.
In a touching moment, children wrote Letters to Our Soldiers, expressing gratitude to the
nation’s brave protectors.
In the Primary Wing (Classes III–V), students brought alive India’s heritage and history through
vibrant role plays. Class III enacted My Dream City – Role Play of Indian Cities while Class IV
showcased Wonders of India – Role Play of Indian Monuments. Class V paid tribute to national
heroes through You Make Us Proud! – Role Play of Freedom Fighters. The Flavours of India
activity added cultural richness as students presented dishes from different states, discussed
their nutritional value and reflected on mindful eating.
Throughout the day, students were also treated to a movie tribute to freedom fighters, offering
them a cinematic glimpse into the sacrifices that shaped the nation. The dance performance
‘Namaste India’ added a colourful and rhythmic dimension to the celebrations, symbolising
unity in diversity through music and movement.
The Senior School (Classes VI–XII) celebrated the occasion with a wide range of thematic
activities. For the Middle School (Classes VI–VIII), the celebrations were designed to connect
students with India’s democratic values, environmental stewardship, experiential learning and
reformist spirit. Class VI conducted a Mock Panchayat, where each section represented a state
and deliberated on pressing local issues such as water scarcity in Maharashtra, education in
Karnataka, agriculture in Sikkim, unemployment in Chhattisgarh and health and sanitation in
Uttar Pradesh. The exercise familiarised students with the Panchayati Raj system and
underscored the importance of collective problem-solving in a democracy through authentic
role play and practice. Class VII embarked on Eco-Trails, exploring India’s national parks and
wildlife sanctuaries including Gir, Kuno, Periyar, the Sundarbans and Keoladeo (Bharatpur).
Through their presentations, students highlighted India’s rich biodiversity and reflected on the
role of citizens in conserving these ecological treasures. Class VIII revisited the country’s
reformist past in Breaking Barriers, where students brought alive movements such as the Tribal
and Peasant uprisings, the Indigo Rebellion, the Sanyasi Movement, Women’s Reform
Movements and Gandhian initiatives. The activity inspired students to appreciate the courage
of those who challenged injustice and paved the way for a more equitable and empowered
society.
Classes IX–XII engaged in a Soft Skills and Public Speaking Session organised by Odyssey, the
student-run club, sharpening communication and confidence.
‘No Bag Day’ at DPS Rohini was a celebration of India’s democratic values, cultural legacy and
the nurturing of responsible citizens who carry forward the nation’s spirit with pride.
