Delhi Public School, Rohini observed a grand confluence of culture and achievement on 26 April 2025 celebrating ‘Everything Nritya: World Dance Day Celebration and Investiture Ceremony’— a reflection of the school’s commitment to nurturing both talent and responsibility.
The day commenced with the serene ‘Mangal Dhwani’, an ensemble of sacred sounds presented by the talented students, followed by ‘Bhavarpan’, an emotionally resonant performance by students with special needs, invoking divine grace and setting the tone for the day.
The gathering paused to honour the memory of those lost in the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack. In a solemn tribute, two minutes of silence was observed, reflecting deep respect and collective mourning for the brave souls.
A ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the special invitees—Smt. Seema Jain, IES (Director, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India), Smt. Y. Theba Devi (Senior Programme Director for Dance, Sangeet Natak Akademi), Mr. Vikramjit Singh Rooprai (educator, historian and heritage activist), Mr. Mohit Bijlani (entrepreneur and founder of Team Innovation), along with the Principal, Ms. Kanika Sachdeva Govi—marked the beginning of the celebration. The lamp’s glow honoured the art of dance, lighting the way for creativity and endless possibilities.
This was followed by the felicitation of the dignitaries, recognising their contributions to public service, the promotion of Indian classical arts and innovation in culture and education. A mesmerising invocatory Bharatanatyam performance by a faculty member from the dance department, Ms. Upasana Gagneja, dedicated to Lord Shiva, offered a spiritual ode to the divine through graceful movement and expression.
In her inspiring address, the Principal, Ms. Kanika Sachdeva Govi, beautifully articulated the school’s vision of nurturing children who are compassionate and sensitive. She spoke passionately about the importance of weaving ‘nritya’ into the fabric of everyday life, while cautioning against the growing dependence on machines at the cost of human creativity and intellect. She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the parents and alumni for their steadfast support and contribution to the school’s vibrant and thriving community.
The next segment witnessed the formal induction of the Student Cabinet for the academic session 2025–2026. Students from the Infant, Junior, Middle and Senior Wings received their badges of responsibility from the honourable guests. Applause resounded through the quadrangle as each name was proudly announced.
In a symbolic gesture, the school flag was handed over by outgoing Head Girl, Saanvi Khanna, and Head Boy, Anirudh Dabas, to their successors, Head Girl, Shubhalakshmi, and Head Boy, Laksh Kapoor, representing the transition of responsibilities and the trust vested in the new team. The newly elected leaders then stood together for the Oath-Taking Ceremony, led by the Vice Principal. With sincerity and commitment, they pledged to uphold the school’s values, driven by the core value of 'Service Before Self.’
Another proud moment followed with the release of the school almanac, titled ‘Changemakers: Defying Age Stereotypes’. This special edition celebrates young minds who challenge conventions and embody the spirit of transformation.
Smt. Seema Jain then addressed the gathering, delivering a soul-stirring speech. She remarked, “What could be better than a dance form to witness the soul of India? This is the best occasion to celebrate that. Nritya is not just an expression of performance; it is an immersive experience where movement becomes meditation and rhythm becomes prayer.” Her words beautifully encapsulated the spirit of the day, reinforcing the significance of cultural heritage, leadership, and the value of service in national growth.
A vote of thanks was extended to all dignitaries, staff, parents and students whose collective efforts made the event a resounding success. Heartfelt thanks were once again extended to the Principal for her inspiring vision and leadership. The main event concluded on a note of unity and inclusion, with the National Anthem movingly expressed in sign language.
The joy and celebration of dance continued seamlessly after the formal proceedings, filling the atmosphere with energy and enthusiasm. The audience was enthralled by ‘Nupurdhwani’, a vibrant medley of classical dance performances, and ‘Nrityayaan’, a curated photo exhibition chronicling the historical evolution of Indian dance.
The artistic corridors came alive with ‘Nrityakala’—a spectacular display featuring rangoli art, traditional costumes (Nrityavesham), and classical ornaments (Nrityabharanam). The audience was also treated to ‘Nrityadarshan’, featuring screenings of rare and iconic dance-based films.
The celebration culminated in ‘Nrityasanjeevani’, a captivating Dance Therapy Workshop conducted by renowned Movement Therapist, Ms. Tripura Kashyap, a pioneer in the field. Through this workshop, participants experienced the healing potential of dance as a medium of emotional and physical well-being.
As the day drew to a close, a heartwarming surprise flash mob brought an unexpected wave of joy, togetherness and celebration, leaving everyone with a lasting sense of unity and happiness.
More than a celebration, the day represented a beautiful confluence of rhythm and responsibility, culture and character, grace and determination—a true testament to Delhi Public School, Rohini’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals and fostering a spirit of lifelong learning.
