Adolescence is a crucial phase of transition from childhood to adulthood, marked by significant physical, cognitive, and emotional changes. This period, between ages 10 and 19, involves rapid biological and hormonal shifts, leading to behavioural, psychosocial, and physical maturation. However, with these changes come challenges like confusion, dilemmas and stress for adolescents, as they face multiple adjustments simultaneously.
During this phase, the brain's region responsible for planning, organizing and decision-making is still developing, leading to heightened emotions and mood swings, sometimes resulting in impulsive reactions. It is vital to provide adequate support and space for adolescents to express their feelings and thoughts while offering appropriate guidance to ensure their healthy development.
To facilitate a smooth passage through this critical phase and promote the healthy growth of adolescents into responsible adults, Delhi Public School Rohini organized an interactive workshop for students of Class VII on 05 July 2023, conducted by the school counsellor, Ms. Aarti Girdhar and Ms. Deepa Chaudhary.
The workshop aimed to create awareness about the biological and hormonal changes that adolescents experience during this stage of life, providing age-appropriate information to the students. The students were encouraged to discuss their concerns freely and report any issues hindering their safety.

With deep motivation to contribute our bit, followed by a huge collection drive, an educational trip of 22 students was organized by Delhi Public School Rohini for the students of Classes V, VII and VIII to Goonj, Sarita Vihar, Delhi. The visit commenced with tour to different sections at the head office which was purposely categorized into various departments for proper organisation including segregation, quality check and approval of the contributions made at the centre.
Followed with this was the Kit formation section where different items of necessity were packed together and made into kits like Anganwadi kit, Office Kit, Women Kit and Bridal Kit for distribution in remote areas usually as reward in lieu of area specific work. Next was a room for dry ration and utensils and contributions that were stored for catering to the needs during disaster and to support rehabilitation supply.
Another space at their office was titled School to School with an intention to bridge the urban rural gap by different means like sharing books, stationaries, organizing storytelling and empathy sessions to make children aware about different worlds of their learning. Last but not the least was NJPC (Not just a piece of Cloth) room dedicated to women hygiene and personal care and making them aware about personal sanitation and even making and providing them with kits for personal usage.
An immensely influential area was the waste paper collection room with numerous waste papers and single side used papers, useful for making further usable items. Children were also privileged to see a working loom.
Finally, the last exploration was the museum where items made out of waste materials and souvenirs like ancient coins, guns, lamps and old typewriters were on display.
The excursion ended with Goonj Ki Gullak- which the students received to make contributions and return in their next visit. They were also delighted to have handmade items of used material as a token of remembrance of their educational trip.
