Teen Innovator Tracks Parkinson’s Tremors with Award-Winning Device.

A talented 14-year-old won the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam National Award for creating a device that helps track tremors in people with Parkinson's disease. This innovative device earned her the prestigious Broadcom-IRIS Grand Award 2020-21 from the Central Government of India. Jui also won the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam National Award for Innovation and Creativity, and the INSPIRE-Manak Award from the Department of Science and Technology. With two patents to her name, she is one of the youngest inventors in India. Jui’s inspiration came from her own family. Her uncle had been battling Parkinson's disease for nine years, suffering from uncontrollable tremors. She noticed that his medication was based on tremor history, but there was no accurate way to measure these tremors. This realization pushed her to find a solution. She developed the JTremor-3D device to help not only her uncle but also other Parkinson's patients. The device is a wearable gadget with sensors that track tremors in a person’s body every 1/10th of a second. These sensors, called accelerometers and gyrometers, detect the tremors, and the data is sent to a cloud database. From there, the information is analyzed and shared with doctors, who can use it to prescribe the right medication. This helps create a personalized treatment plan for each patient, based on their tremor patterns. Jui’s dedication to her work didn’t stop at just building a device. She created a special system called the JTremor Index, which tracks when tremors are at their highest and lowest during the day. This information is crucial for doctors to understand how to adjust a patient's treatment. Born in Pune, Jui grew up in a supportive family and developed an interest in science at a young age. While still a student in the 9th grade, she worked tirelessly, even learning programming languages like Python to make the device work. After months of hard work, Jui Keskar’s prototype could be worn like gloves or strapped to the legs, providing valuable data to help improve the lives of people with Parkinson's disease. Her invention has gained national and international attention, and her journey is an inspiration to young minds everywhere.

Dear Parents
There is a famous Chichewa proverb that says; “M’mera mpoyamba” literally translated as catch them while young. The saying emphasizes the importance of a child’s formative years and how whatever happens at this early stage has a bearing on the child’s later years.
Let us catch them young, train them and raise successful children!

Dear Students, here is a suggestion for what to do this weekend.

Bookaroo. India’s first and biggest children’s literature festival, is back with a fantastic line-up of authors, illustrators and storytellers this November.

This year the dates in Delhi are November 26 and 27 and the venue is National Rail Museum, Chanakya Puri.

You can savour stories, attend workshops, learn art from the masters, create craft and just enjoy the act of reading.

So, go ahead. Find out some time to explore diverse writings, engage in new activities and immerse yourself in a wide range of stories. It can change your perspective about things, people and events.

Hope you enjoy what you see !
