A career counselling session was organized by the school for students of classes IX to XII who were interested in pursuing a career in law. The event was graced by Mr. Abhay Ojha, Joint Director of Jindal Global Law School at O.P. Jindal Global University.
Mr. Ojha provided invaluable knowledge to the attendees by sharing his professional as well as personal experiences as a lawyer. During the course of the workshop, Mr. Ojha enlightened the students about various entrance exams that they could take to gain admission to law schools. He informed them that a good aptitude is required in English, Maths, Logical Reasoning, and General Knowledge to clear a law entrance test. He further clarified that unlike the other entrance tests, the LSAT has only two components, namely, Reasoning and English.
Mr. Ojha informed that LSAT is conducted by LLAC Pennsylvania using Artificial Intelligence and is a strict procedure. It is a home-based exam involving 90 questions with a time limit of 150 minutes. His session proceeded with some tips for acing these exams. Further, he suggested the participants to keep their general awareness up to date on international sports, awards and honors, important international news, economic news, as well as appointments and deaths for the General Knowledge Aptitude Test.
The latter half of the talk focused on the courses offered by colleges with law as their main subject and an overview of the different career paths that one could choose within the legal industry. There are degree courses such as BA LLB, BB LLB, and B. Com LLB that can be pursued by the students. After graduating from the law school, one can pursue a profession in the field of judiciary by becoming a criminal lawyer, a corporate lawyer or even a legal advisor. Alternatively, one could take up a profession in teaching, civil services, armed forces, administration, MBA, or LLM. At this stage, Mr. Ojha intimated to the audience that law could be considered a beneficial main subject when preparing for UPSC.
He also shared the three prerequisites for choosing an ideal college, i.e. faculty, alumni and infrastructure. He ended his session with a word of caution to not get influenced by modern-day films and online series as they don’t show the reality of law and courts.
The workshop proved to be an exceptional opportunity for students who are aspiring to pursue law in higher education. It was an informative and inspiring event that left the students with a better understanding of the various career paths available within the field of law. The students were able to gain valuable insights from Mr. Ojha’s experiences and expertise, which will undoubtedly help them in their future endeavours.
